CPAR Government/Not-for-Profit self-study courses are now delivered via SmartPros' enhanced e-Learning Player (eLP), rather than the former Windows Media-based format.

The eLP requires Adobe Flash Player 7 or higher (formerly Macromedia Flash Player) – a free download if you don't already have it.

2. Log in to CPAR Gov/NFP Self-Study Professional Education Center and proceed through each of the following items in order, then take the final exam:

Important Changes to CPE Rules for Government Auditing Standards
Effective January 2004, the U.S. General Accounting Office amended the continuing professional education rules for purposes of the Government Auditing Standards.

Under Paragraph 45 of the "Yellow Book," auditors must complete, every 2 years, at least 80 hours of CPE that directly enhances the auditor's professional proficiency to perform audits and/or attestation engagements. According to the amendment, CPAs may no longer use CPE credits in taxation to meet their 80 hour GAO "yellow book" requirement, effective January 1, 2004.

As a direct result of this amendment, you will notice a change with the release of Vol. 3/2004 Government Specialist/Not-for-Profit Specialist. Each of the four segments presented on each quarter's release will now relate to Accounting & Auditing and will qualify for "yellow book" credit under the new guidelines.

How will you meet the additional required CPE credits in Accounting & Auditing? Many of the quarterly subscribers to Government Specialist/Not-for-Profit Specialist also receive one of our monthly programs. Utilizing the same video and online format as the quarterly programs, these monthly programs provide you with 22 programs each year in Accounting & Auditing (two segments every month, except March).

We have introduced a special package for those of you who are NOT currently subscribers to one of our monthly programs. You will continue to receive the four programs on Government Specialist/Not-for-Profit Specialist each quarter. In addition, you will receive our A&A Specialist program, providing you with two A&A programs each month (except March). Important Changes for CPA Report Government/Not-for-Profit Edition Video Self-Study and Group Study Students
You can now earn two Self-Study CPE credits for 2003 CPAR Gov/NFP segments taken online in the new CPAR Self-Study Professional Education Center, rather than one as in the past with the paper version, in accordance with new NASBA standards.
